Psychedelic medicines are a breakthrough in couples therapy. Not because they help us communicate better or open our hearts, but because they allow us access to our subconscious. A place where our beliefs live that run the stories that shape our lives, the place where our hearts originally closed, from threats that no longer apply.
Our intimate relationships bring up the templates of reality formed in childhood. Templates that shape our stories and defenses, but we struggle to perceive or access because they exist below our level of awareness.
Talk therapy doesn’t often help because we can only ‘talk’ about things we are aware of, even if our awareness is enhanced by psychedelics. We need to go deeper.
